New Ofsted Framework Revealed

With the new Ofsted Chief (Sir Michael Wilshaw) demanding that Ofsted inspectors assess the dress standards of teachers a new Ofsted Framework document has been 'discovered' in draft form.  In the spirit of WikiLeaks I shall reveal all here:

Standards of Teacher Dress

 

Outstanding (1)	Almost all teachers, including where applicable, PE teachers and those teaching practical subjects, are wearing Armani/Diane von Furtenberg suits in a coordinating colour scheme.  They have regular shoe cleaning sessions and as a result have shoes shining like patent leather. All hair is clearly washed, styled and groomed, including 'personal hair'. Nails are always well shaped and, where appropriate, subtle nail varnish is applied with care and exceptional brushwork. All fingernails are clean with no evidence of dirt.  Teachers smell fresh like they have recently had a bath or shower.  Makeup is discreet and applied professionally.
Good (2)	Teachers are better dressed than all teachers nationally given their starting points. Groups of teachers, including PE teachers and those teaching practical subjects, are also better dressed than similar groups of teachers nationally.  Where standards of any group of teachers are below those of all teachers nationally, the gaps are closing. In exceptional circumstances, where dress, including personal grooming is low overall, it is improving at a faster rate than nationally over a sustained period.
Satisfactory (3)	Teachers are dressing at least as well as all teachers nationally given their starting points. Groups of teachers, including PE teachers and those teaching practical subjects, are also dressing in line with similar groups of teachers nationally.  The standards of dress of the majority of groups of teachers are likely to be in line with national dress codes for all teachers. Where dress standards of groups of teachers are below those of all teachers nationally, the gaps are closing overall.  In exceptional circumstances, where dress standards, including grooming, is low overall, it is improving over a sustained period.
Inadequate (4)	Dress standards are likely to be inadequate if any of the following apply: Teachers' clothes and dress overall, or the dress and grooming of particular groups, is consistently below those of all teachers nationally given their starting point. Dress and grooming in any key area of the body, including footwear, lead to scruffiness. The dress, quality of grooming and style of PE teachers and those who teach practical subjects show that this group is not 'bang on trend'. Teachers’ presentation skills, including in hair, dress and colour coordination, are not appropriate for education or training. Quality of appearances is consistently low, showing little, fragile or inconsistent improvement, or is in decline. There are wide gaps in dress styles and poor colour awareness between different groups of teachers and of all teachers nationally that are showing little sign of closing or are widening. Any teacher is seen wearing jeans, t-shirts or white trainers. Any teacher is dressed in 'extreme' styles such as Goth, Punk or heavy metal clothing.

I recommend that all Headteachers share this new framework with colleagues on the January training day to prepare for any forthcoming inspection.
